Hindu Samhati fighters save a high school from Jihadi ransack in Uluberia, West Bengal

Hindu Samhati volunteers fought with around 500 jihadis to foil their efforts to ransack and destroy a high school in Uluberia, Howrah in West Bengal

On the 13th of December, Tehatta High School in Uluberia was running their classes as usual when something unusual happened. Uluberia is a city and a municipality in Howrah district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

After a religious congregation, some jihadis in the area came out and met the school principal. They asked him why Nabi Diwas (celebration of Mohammed’s birthday ) would not be celebrated in the school. Soon a flag with a star and moon was flying atop the school building. The principal felt , lack of security and closed down the school for 7 days. Later due to the intervention of the District Magistrate and the religious leaders of Furphura Sharief (A Islamic religious centre in Bengal) , it was decided that Nabi Diwas would be celebrated for 15 minutes.

Things seemed normal. But once the local police imposed prohibitory orders citing law and order breakdown, the jihadis used it as a pretext to invade the school with 500 members with an aim to ransack it. They abused the students , destroyed properties and was on the verge of ransacking the entire school. Once local Hindu Samhati volunteers came to know of the attack, they immediately sprung into action and fought with the jihadists defeating them in their agenda. The school was saved. Later RAF and the police brigade were sent, who took charge of the place. It has now been decided by the school principal that no Nabi Diwas will be celebrated in future. While jihadi attack in West Bengal is on the rise, the courage of Hindu Samhati volunteers who fought with the jihadists without caring for their lives and the wise and quick actions taken by the Principal of the school may have saved another school and many lives and careers of children. Together they have set an example on how to deal with similar problems in India.
