On this auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi my visit to Thiruvananthapuram where a prominent Ganesha Temple known as Pazhavangadi shree MahaGanapati Temple where we visited.
The unique story of that temple origin was such in Padmanabhapuram former capital of Travancore kingdom where the night guards a disturbance from Yakshini Spirit.
Thus one day a soldier during his evening bathing before duty found stepping on a stone. One checked closer he found a Ganesha Idol. Thus considering it as a good omen he bought deity to then Camp of Nair Brigade thus becoming deity of Travancore forces.
Later when capital was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram deity moved along with the forces and was established in then Pazhavangadi area. Thus getting the name Pazhavangadi shree MahaGanapati.
In 1860-80 Ayilyam Thirunaal Maharaja supported renovation of the temple and thus making it prominent.
After independence and with Nair Brigade of Travancore State forces merging with Indian Army the temple is maintained and managed by Indian Army.
Ganesh chaturthi wishes to all
