Tribute to Chempakaraman Pillai
Chempakaraman pillai was born in Thiruvananthapuram belongs to Nanjilnadu present day Kanyakumari district.
He started his education in Thiruvananthapuram and later moved to Europe at the age of 17.
He had his engineering education at ETH Zurich and initially started Pro India group. Later he merged with Indian Independence Committee in Berlin. During 1914 Emden attack on Madras it’s said that Chempakaraman Pillai and other revolutionaries had some influence.
In 1915 he began to work from Holland during that time the Provisional Free Indian Government declared him as Foreign minister. Thus he worked for Indian Independence till the end of WW1.
After the war He joined a factory in Germany to work as an engineer. Still continued for Indian cause.
He married Lakshmi of Manipur. It’s said that because of his tiff with Adolf Hitler he was poisoned to death.
He was known associate of V Chattopadhyaya who was former India House member.Chempakaraman Pillai first coined the term Jaihind which was popularized by Abid Hassan is still used in India.
His mortal remains were bought to India in 1935 and was given with full honours in 1966 it was sailed from Mumbai to Kochi in INS Delhi and Ashes were immersed in Nanjilnadu as per his last wish.
Thus let’s remember one of the greatest freedom fighter.
