Four movies with one skeleton. Intergenerational messaging and storytelling.
Hey Ram(2000)-Grandson who was taking care of his grandfather and got fascinated by his work and discuss it with his Doctor friend who was treating his ailments. It extends to dynamics of Grandsons of Protagonist and his ideal.
Kashmir Files(2022)-Story about the relationship dynamics of Grandfather and Grandson who were subject to violence and Grandson becoming rebellious. Only after him observing the reality after visiting the native place of his grandfather after his death he understood reality thus understanding truth.
Bengal files(2025)- Though not a direct bloodline story it revolves around the character Maa Bharati an elderly woman who was the survivor of Violence of that era thus supporting and conveying the truth to the next generation is where the things get interesting.
Main Waapas Aaunga(2026)- An interfaith love story in the backdrop of Partition of 1947 Punjab. Where both were unable to forget each other and even at near death the old man shares those memories with his grandson. Thus Grandson takes up the role and on the way to uniting them and observing different individuals.
Here Directors Kamal Haasan, Vivek Agnihotri and Imtiaz Ali all took the same frame. How they execute the messaging that matters.
My take all those four movies have a good story and screenplay. The messaging was both covert and overt shows of symbolism and Gore can be seen.
Point being here the elders of Kamal Haasan and Imtiaz Ali movie wanted people to look into the future without looking into Past meaning forgive and Forget. The world has many good Individuals.
While Vivek Agnihotri’s Messaging was to Forgive but always be vigilant for the survival. Learn from History still be Vigilant.
Thus let’s remember it’s up to the audience to decide on movies. It’s all for Individuals to take.
My personal opinion. I like the craft of all the four movies. My favourite quote from Historian George Santayana “Those who cannot remember History are condemned to repeat it.”
