Tribute to Peshwa Bajirao-I
Tribute to Peshwa Bajirao-I on his Birth Anniversary. Peshwa Bajirao-I was son of then Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath Bhat.
He was trained in childhood in Sanskrit and basic education along with battle strategy and martial arts by his Father Balaji Vishwanath Bhat. He had an Younger Brother Chimaji Appa who was a pillar behind him.
He was appointed as Peshwa by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Satara after Demise of His father.
He got married to Kashibai in 1720 with whom he had Balaji Bajirao,Ragunathrao and Ramachandra Rao who died in infancy. He had one son Shamsher Bahadur with Mastani.
His career began with Decline of Mughals and raise of Nizam as de facto independent ruler in Deccan thus he initially established the chauth rights in the provinces and later began conquest of Malwa.
He also took Gujarat under the Maratha Empire also had success in Bundelkhand and supported Maharaja Chhatrasal.
Later he took the battle to Delhi and gave a lightning strike attack there and on his return He faced with battle in Bhopal where he won.
His tactical genius was known for his cavalry skills in Battle of Palkhed, Malwa and his attack on Delhi and Bhopal are exemplification of the light cavalry tactics of Hindavi Swarajya aka Maratha Empire.
His younger brother Chimaji Appa led Battle of Vasai against Portugal and Nanaji Surve another Sardar under Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj played Important role in curbing Portugal dominance in Konkan coast.
Thus let’s remember the finest warrior, Statesman and Strategist.
