Tribute to People who supported Swami Vivekananda

We all know about the speech of Swami Vivekananda in Chicago at 1893 with his words “Sisters and Brothers of America.” The word got great appreciation from Audience that they clapped for minutes together.

Here we discuss about the individuals who supported Swami Vivekananda before and during his Journey to Chicago.

People behind Swami Vivekananda’s Triumphant Journey

This is a summary of people who were inspired by Swami Vivekananda and supported him.

Here him after his visit around Pilgrim centres and later visited Rajputana where he met Maharaja Ajit Singh of Khetri in 1891. Their Introduction later became a great friendship where Maharaja of Khetri supported Swami Vivekananda till his demise.

Later Swami visited Bombay presidency where he heard about parliament of world’s religion in USA. Later he met many scholars in west India and met Lokmanya Tilak. Here he moved to Bengaluru where he met Diwan Seshadri Iyer who introduced him to Maharaja Chama Rajendra wodeyar X. Maharaja asked him to be his guest and gave an introduction letter and ticket to Cochin. From Kerala he reached Kanyakumari where he did penance and realized his mission to reach USA for Parliament of World’s religion.

He reached Madurai where he met Raja of Ramnad Bhaskara Setupathi in 1892. Where swami had discussion with Mahavidvaan R.Raghava Iyengar then Raja of Ramnad suggested him to attend meeting in USA.

On his visit to Chennai then Madras he met many disciples including Alasinga Perumal who was searching a right person to attend meeting requested Swami Vivekananda to attend and he collected funds by organising a door to door campaign and collected enough funds.

Later Swami Vivekananda visited Khetri to Meet Maharaja in 1893 and finally he departed for Mumbai then Bombay for Chicago.

Later on his Journey in Chicago due to change in date of meeting where he met with Cash Crunch where Alasinga Perumal and Maharaja of Khetri supported him.

Swami Vivekananda spoke highly about H.H. Ramnad,Mysore and people of Madras to Maharaja of Khetri. Ice house where swami stayed became Vivekananda memorial house in Chennai. Swami’s famous turban style was taught to him by Maharaja of Khetri which Swami Vivekananda later perfected. Raja Bhaskara Setupathi received swami after his international visit where he entered India from Jaffna. Alasinga Perumal started Journal Brahmavadin in 1895 which was later succeeded by Vedanta Kesari where Swami Vivekananda himself contributed articles.
