Tribute to Shri Chandra Shekhar Azad ji on his Birth Anniversary.

Chandra Shekhar Azad was born in 1906 in Bhabra Village in Madhya Pradesh. His father Sitaram Tiwari and his mother Jagrani Devi.

His family wanted him to be trained as Sanskrit scholar thus he was sent to Kashi Vidyapeeth where he joined the Non Cooperation movement.

During the non cooperation movement when he was arrested he told to the DM his name was Azad, Father’s name was Swatantra and his home as Jail. Thus got flogged by British.

When Gandhi withdrawn Non Cooperation movement it led many youngsters getting disappointed. He joined HRA under Ramprasad Bismil and Ashfaqullah Khan.

He learnt about communism from communist manifesto given to him by Shiv Verma.

He spent his time in Orrcha near Jhansi where he learnt to be an expert marksman and learnt to drive car. In Orrcha he lived under alias Harishankar Brahmachari and had great rapport with locals thus evading arrest.

After Kakori Train Robbery he organised HRA to HSRA. With him and Bhagat Singh they assassinated Saunders the ASP of Lahore for their action against Lala Lajpat Rai where their beating led to his death. Later the group bombed central assembly with Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt. Thus HSRA members were arrested.

Now Azad moved to Prayagraj/ Allahabad to continue his revolutionary movement. Thus when he was in Chandrasekhar Azad park/Alfred Park police surrounded him in the shootout he defended himself. Finally with his last bullet he took his own life instead of being captured.

Let’s remember the sacrifice of that young soul.
